PIRATES OF PROMISED LAND ‘PORTHOLE PRIVATEERS’ EP OFFERS A SEARING LOOK INTO HARD-WON REDEMPTION

The band name Pirates Of Promised Land does play a bit into the punk aesthetic and catch one’s attention. However, it’s kind of open season when it is chosen as your moniker and hype to get you to listen to their music. There’s a lot to live up but luckily this three-song EP has solid material that shows potential and has some staying power.

The EP is more along the lines of the spirit of punk but in essence has a melodic, pop sound/backbone/fountain. The booty or prize, so to speak, is the tortured odyssey of an emotional rollercoaster into self-realization and awareness. The three tracks see the band lyrically move through and express through song their journey crawling through the wreckage of their tumultuous lives to date. There is a real pain, hurt, anger, sadness and regret that colors and permeates each track of thoroughly passionately expressed music on this EP.

Themes of loving hard and fast, exploring the folly of a misspent youth, and drinking way too much inform the songs of “Searching Through,” “New Again,” and “Until Then.” The performances of the band featuring Chris Dammert on guitars and vocals, Steve Hartwick on bass and vocals, and Ana Williams on drums match and capture note for note the stormy and dramatic yet exhilarating power of the engrossing tracks with fiery, intense, and high-energy playing.
