BOB MOSES COMPOSE ABSOLUTE PERFECTION ON THE SILENCE IN BETWEEN

Bob Moses has released the perfect album, The Silence In Between, at the perfect time. As restrictions relax and the world emerges from its isolation, people are looking for something perfect and beautiful to hold onto. And nobody does indie-pop electronica better or more perfectly.

From the opening guitar strum on “Seen it Coming” you can feel the build. The slight reverb on the vocals lend them a slightly haunting feel, and you instantly know that this is firmly in Bob Moses territory. By the time the Depeche Mode-esque synths kick in, the song has taken on that trademark epic feel that defines the band so well.

“Love Brand New” starts off with a lovely guitar riff that distorts and drops into a dark foreboding beat. That beat becomes a drive that propels the song. From the repeated guitar sample to the infectious refrain, this song is insanely catchy.

“…Never Ending” is a laid-back banger that slowly builds into a killer bass line. This may be the most purely electronic song on the album, and could easily be expanded into a centerpiece song live. This may also be the closest thing on the album that approaches the melancholy and lyrical aching of “Tearing Me Up.”

“Time and Time Again” might be the distillation of what makes Bob Moses great. The longing in the vocals, the Trance-like build into a monster drop, and the expression of pain transformed into dark beauty.

“Back to You” is the most “Indie rock” song on the album. It is more vocally driven than the other songs and has a badass guitar hook that you can’t get out of your head.

“Hanging On” might be the sleeper hit on the album. Tinged with Daft Punk-like synths and a chorus that you will be humming for weeks. “Broken Belief” has a 90s industrial feel. The vocals on this song are a real departure. Tom Howie sings the verses in a sing-song talk through heavy filters.

“Believe” is the perfect ender. It winds down the album like a chill out after the highs of a hard night out. It settles into a nice groove, teases you with a heavy drop, but never explodes. It is all about easing you down.

The Silence In Between has eschewed quantity for quality. Ten perfectly crafted songs that each stand on their own. Any one of them could be a hit single.
